Township of Colts Neck

Colts Neck

Colts Neck has long been known for equestrian farms, a tradition dating to the 1700s. It was established in 1847 as Atlantic Township and renamed in 1962. With no public water or sewer service and strict zoning, homes sit on large lots and chain stores are largely absent.

Laird & Company, an applejack producer, operates in the Scobeyville section, and the remains of Bucks Mill, a mid-1800s grist mill, are still visible. The Colts Neck Tavern dates to the Revolutionary era. The North American Phalanx, a utopian socialist community, operated nearby from 1843 to 1856.
