Borough of Eatontown

Eatontown

Eatontown takes its name from Thomas Eaton, an early settler who built a mill here around 1670, on the site of today's Wampum Lake Park. It was incorporated as a township in 1873 from parts of Ocean and Shrewsbury townships, and became a borough in 1926.

The U.S. Army's Fort Monmouth operated here from 1917 until it closed in September 2011. Netflix is now building its East Coast production campus on the former fort, which straddles the Eatontown and Oceanport line along Route 35 and the Avenue of Memories.
