City of Long Branch

Long Branch

Long Branch is an oceanfront city that hosted a string of U.S. presidents in the nineteenth century, including Grant, Garfield and Arthur. Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park carries their name, and the Church of the Presidents is the only structure left in town tied to those visits.

Pier Village, a redevelopment at the foot of Laird Street, stands beside the site of the old amusement pier lost to fire in 1987. Hurricane Sandy destroyed the boardwalk in 2012, and it reopened in April 2016. In the Elberon section, the Garfield Tea House was built from railroad ties that had carried the president's train.
