Township of Neptune

Neptune Township

Neptune Township was incorporated in 1879, and Neptune City was split off from it in 1881. The Shark River estuary forms its southern border, and Asbury Park lies to the north. Jersey Shore University Medical Center is the township's largest institution.

Ocean Grove, a locality within the township, was founded in 1869 by Methodist clergy as a camp meeting site. Its Great Auditorium stands near Ocean Pathway, and the Victorian-era district is on the National Register of Historic Places. Fletcher Lake, Wesley Lake and the Atlantic bound the historic district.
