Sea Bright

Sea Bright occupies a narrow barrier peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and the Navesink and Shrewsbury rivers. A seawall runs the length of town between the beach and Route 36, and the Highlands-Sea Bright Bridge carries the highway over the Shrewsbury River.

The Ocean House, the first hotel, opened in 1842, and the borough was formed in 1889 from parts of Ocean Township. The Sea Bright Skiff, a boat launched through the surf for offshore fishing, was developed on the Jersey Shore. Private beach clubs line the shore, and the Seabright Lawn Tennis and Cricket Club keeps the older spelling.
