Borough of Atlantic Highlands

Atlantic Highlands

Atlantic Highlands overlooks the point where the Atlantic and Raritan Bay meet at Sandy Hook. A Methodist-affiliated group developed it as a resort and camp community in 1879, and it was incorporated in 1887 from part of Middletown Township.

Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook, a county park, looks toward Sandy Hook, the bay and the New York skyline and holds the county's 9/11 memorial. The municipal harbor dates to the late 1930s, ferry service to Manhattan began in 1986, and the Strauss Mansion serves as a local history museum.
