Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook

A 12-acre Monmouth County overlook at 266 feet with views of Sandy Hook and the New York skyline, plus the county's 9/11 Memorial.

Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook is a 12-acre county park in Atlantic Highlands. At 266 feet, the county says it is the highest natural elevation on the Atlantic seaboard, excluding islands, from Maine to the Yucatan. From the overlook you can see Sandy Hook, Sandy Hook Bay, Raritan Bay and the New York skyline.

The park also holds Monmouth County's 9/11 Memorial, honoring 147 people from the county who died in the September 11, 2001 attacks. A timeline path leads to a black granite table listing names, ages and towns, and a stone eagle sculpture by Franco Minervini. A playground is on site.

The park opens at 7 a.m. daily, year-round, and closes at 7:30 p.m. through October 31, 5:30 p.m. from November 1 to January 18, and 6 p.m. from January 19 to February 8. The county page lists no fees but invites voluntary donations to the memorial maintenance fund. A tick advisory is linked from the page.
