Borough of Belmar

Belmar

Belmar fronts the Atlantic and sits on the south side of the Shark River near its inlet. It was incorporated in 1885 as Ocean Beach, carved from Wall Township, and took the name Belmar in 1890; the name is Italian for beautiful sea.

The beach and boardwalk are the draw in summer, and a municipal marina serves the river and inlet. The Belmar Fishing Club Pier is a well-known local landmark. Annual events include the New Jersey Seafood Festival, the Belmar Pro Surf Contest and a St. Patrick's Day parade.
