Borough of Manasquan

Manasquan

Manasquan is a borough on the southern edge of Monmouth County, formed in 1887 from part of Wall Township. Its name comes from the Lenape language. The jetty at Manasquan Inlet, which reopened in 1931 and marks the northern end of the inland Intracoastal Waterway, creates waves that attract surfers.

Main Street holds the downtown shops and the Algonquin Arts Theatre, built in 1938 as a movie house and converted to live performance in 1994. The Squan Beach Life-Saving Station and the Manasquan Friends Meetinghouse are historic sites, and the Firemen's Fair has run each summer since 1974.
